BFT welding and fabrication repair in Austin typically runs $240 to $540 installed, and we carry the common weld-in brackets, reinforced hinge plates, and custom gate frame sections on our trucks so most BFT jobs are finished in a single visit. We’re an independent gate repair company, not a BFT dealer, which means we stock both OEM and quality aftermarket steel that fits BFT swing and slide gate operator geometry without the dealer markup.

Most Austin owners discover they need welding or fabrication the hard way: the gate starts dragging, the opener strains, and on inspection the hinge weld has split or the operator mount has cracked loose from years of Texas heat cycling and clay-soil shifting. You can’t usually see the failure until the gate’s already sagging. Here’s how to know what you’re dealing with before you call.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
BFT swing gate openers like the Deimos, Phobos, and Rigel lines all mount to steel or aluminum gate frames using fabricated brackets and hinge points. Slide gate models like the BFT Aries and Otho rely on welded rack-mount channels and bearing plates. If your gate has a BFT operator on it, welding and fabrication generally means one of three things: repairing the original gate frame, building a custom mount because the original bracket no longer lines up, or fabricating a replacement for a rusted-out section.
The compatibility gotcha most owners hit: BFT’s European-style mounting geometry uses metric bolt patterns and specific standoff distances. A generic weld-in bracket from a box store often sits the operator 10 to 15 millimeters off the BFT spec, which causes binding and premature limit-switch failure. We match the bracket to the exact BFT opener model, then reinforce the weld point so it survives Austin’s wet-dry soil cycles without cracking again.
OEM BFT fabrication parts exist, but they’re often backordered for weeks and priced 40 percent above a quality aftermarket equivalent fabricated from the same gauge steel. We’ll tell you the honest split: where OEM matters (the actuator mounting plate, the linkage arm) and where a local fabricated part actually outlasts the original (most hinge rebuilds and gate frame corners).
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your BFT Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- Gate sags or scrapes at the latch end. This usually means a hinge weld has cracked or the gate frame tube has fatigued at a corner. The BFT opener keeps pushing against the misalignment, which wears the actuator out faster than the weld failure alone ever would.
- The opener mount flexes when the gate moves. You’ll see the BFT operator body rock or vibrate under load. The fabricated mounting plate has either cracked at a weld or loosened from the post. If left alone, the flex transfers stress into the gearbox and shortens its life considerably.
- Loud groaning or popping from the hinge side. Popping is often a broken weld moving under tension. The groan is the gate frame twisting against a partially failed joint. Both get worse with every cycle.
- The gate moves but the opener stops mid-travel while humming. A bent or broken fabricated bracket changes the opener’s geometry, so the motor works harder and the current-sensing limit trips early. You’re not fixing this by adjusting the remote.
- Visible rust streaks or cracked powder coat around weld seams. Austin’s humidity and hard-water irrigation overspray eat unprotected welds. Once the powder coat splits along a seam, the underlying steel rusts from the inside out. A visible crack means the section should be replaced, not repainted.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Most BFT welding and fabrication work in Austin lands between $240 and $540 installed, depending on the scope. A single hinge rebuild or bracket replacement runs on the lower end. Reskinning a rusted gate frame section or fabricating a custom operator mount from scratch pushes toward the higher end. Custom slide-gate frame work or full gate corner replacement can exceed that range, and we always write a firm number before we start.
Every job includes grinding out the failed weld, fitting and squaring the new steel, and finishing with a weld-through primer and color-matched paint or powder coat touch-up. The parts-plus-labor transparency matters: we show you the fabricated piece, explain what it cost, and price the labor separately. No asterisks. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the fabrication and installation in writing – if a weld or bracket fails within 365 days, Calder returns at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?
Let’s be straight: welded gate repair is not a weekend DIY project. A failed weld on a BFT operator mount or gate hinge is under tension from the gate’s weight and the opener’s force. If the weld lets go while you’re working on it, you’re dealing with several hundred pounds of steel moving unpredictably. We’ve seen broken fingers and crushed toes from exactly that scenario.
What you can safely check: wobble at the hinge pins, visible cracks in the powder coat, and whether the gate posts have moved (look for gaps where the post meets the concrete). Those notes help us quote the job faster. But when it’s time to cut, grind, and weld, that’s when you call a trained tech. Tell me what it’s doing wrong and I’ll tell you exactly what it costs to fix it. Reach us at (903) 354-7419 and we’ll give you a written price before any torch is lit.
FAQs
A properly fabricated weld on a BFT gate frame should last 12 to 15 years in Austin’s climate if the steel was prepped correctly and the joint is primed and sealed against moisture. In practice, the welds we replace often failed because the original fabrication skipped penetration on thicker tube steel or left raw seams exposed to irrigation overspray. Call (903) 354-7419 if you want us to inspect your existing welds and give you a straight answer on remaining life.
If the crack is in a low-stress area and the surrounding steel is sound, we can grind out the crack and re-weld with proper penetration. If the bracket has rusted thin or the crack runs through a load path, repair is a band-aid and we’ll show you exactly why replacement is cheaper over the next five years. Call (903) 354-7419 and we’ll give you a same-day read on whether that bracket is salvageable.
Most hinge rebuilds and bracket replacements take 2 to 3 hours on-site, including cool-down and paint touch-up. Larger fabrication jobs, like reskinning a gate frame section or building a custom operator mount, typically take 4 to 6 hours and may require a follow-up visit once the steel cools. We stock the common BFT-compatible steel profiles, so we’re not waiting on a shipment to start work.
We carry blank steel stock, hinge plates, and common BFT-compatible mounting brackets on our Austin trucks, so most repairs don’t need an order at all. For unusual model-specific BFT hardware, we source locally from Austin metal suppliers in one to two days rather than waiting on a dealer backorder. We also stock commonly needed parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems, so one call often covers whatever the opener turns out to be.
If your BFT gate is dragging, groaning, or the mount has started to flex, call us at (903) 354-7419. We’ll send a background-checked tech with a live arrival time, diagnose the steel honestly, and put the full price in writing before any work begins.
